Move a deal, win or lose it

Move a deal through the stages, mark it won or lost, and move it to another pipeline.

Guide 1303Updated

As a sale goes forward, move its deal to the next stage. When it is decided, move it to a won or lost stage. The stages are your sales process; the CRM records each move in the deal's timeline.

Move a deal to another stage

Any of these works:

  • On the board: drag the card to the column of the new stage.
  • On the deal: click the stage in the strip across the top. Every stage up to the current one is coloured in.
  • For many deals at once: tick them and use Move to stage. See Lists and boards.

The Stage field under Details also changes the stage, but only when you click Save.

When a stage needs more information

Some stages need fields filled in first, such as a reason or a date. If so, a window Before moving to … asks for them. Fill them in and click Fill in and move. Click Not now to leave the deal where it is.

Win or lose a deal

Move the deal to the won or lost stage of the pipeline, the same way as any other stage. The deal is then marked WON or LOST at the top of its card, and its close date is recorded.

Won and lost deals stay on the board, in the won and lost columns, for 30 days after they close. After that, filter the board or list by Status to see them, or find them through search or on the Deals tab of their contact or company. See Deals overview.

Move a deal to another pipeline

If your workspace has more than one pipeline:

  1. Open the deal.
  2. Next to the stage name under the title, choose the other pipeline in the drop-down.
  3. Confirm. The deal starts at the first stage of that pipeline.

You need permission to change the deal to do this.

What happens when a deal moves

  • The move is written to the deal's timeline, for example Moved from "Proposal" to "Negotiation".
  • The responsible person and the deal's observers are notified.
  • Any automation rules on the new stage run. See Automations.
