Add a lead
Add a lead with the full form or the quick form, and what happens when it may already be in the CRM.
There are two ways to add a lead by hand: the full form, with every field, and the quick form, with only the essentials. Use the quick form when someone is on the phone and you only need a name and a number.
Add a lead with the full form
- Open Leads and click + New lead. You can also use Create → Lead in the top bar from any page.
- Under Details, type the Name (the only field you must fill in).
- Choose the Stage, and enter the Estimated value with its currency if you know it.
- Add a phone number and an email. Use Add phone or Add email for more than one, and pick a label such as Mobile or Work.
- Check the Responsible person: it is you to start with.
- Fill in any other fields on the right.
- Click Create lead.
The lead opens as soon as it is saved. Nothing is kept if you click Cancel.
Add a lead with the quick form
- Click the lightning button next to + New lead, or Quick lead at the top of a column on the board (the lead goes straight into that stage).
- Fill in the name, phone and email, and anything else the form asks for.
- Click Create lead.
Need more fields after all? Click Open the full form instead.
If the lead may already be in the CRM
While you type, the CRM checks for records with the same phone, email or name. Any it finds are listed in the form with the reason, for example the same phone number. Click a name to open that record in a new tab.
- This may already be in the CRM: a close match was found. Open it and carry on there, or click Create lead a second time (the button now says Create lead anyway) to add it anyway.
- Already in the CRM: your role is not allowed to create duplicates. Open the existing record, or ask a manager.
- Similar names in the CRM: only the name is alike. You can create the lead as normal.
Owners and admins decide what counts as a duplicate under Settings → Custom fields → Duplicate control, and which roles may create one anyway under Settings → Access.
